Thursday morning we got up and headed out of Seattle, but
not before one last stop for delicious northwest breakfast pastries, this time at Le
Fournil bakery. Amy kicked off our drive, and we headed northeast out of
Seattle, up to the northernmost (incorporated) point of the lower 48: Sumas,
WA. Upon arrival, we were pretty disappointed – there was no pretty scenery,
just a Canadian border station. We fueled up and headed back south, towards Thursday's end destination of Coeur D’Alene, ID… but not before stopping at the
northernmost kart track in the lower 48! Chris & David checked it out,
decided it would be a hard track to pass on, and we kept moving.

We switched drivers and made lunch (PB&J, we're temporarily out of turkey!) in the town of Sedro
Woolley. I drove us through the Cascades, where we were able to spend some
time, see some beautiful sights, and push on to the Grand Coulee Dam. We arrived at the Dam about 5PM, and were disappointed to find that all
overlooks/information stations were closed for construction. We did manage to
find out that the dam was about a mile long, which is far longer than Hoover
Dam, but not nearly as tall.

By this point, Amy and I were getting pretty bored in the back seat, so we passed the remaining 1.5 hours to Coeur D’Alene by playing rummy. Amy kindly taught me how to play, and then kindly crushed me by over 200 points. J
Dinner in Coeur D’Alene was at a restaurant featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, called
Capone’s. It was delicious!! Chris
and I got pizza, Amy got a philly cheese-chicken, and David stayed true to form
with a burger. The best part of the meal, however, might have been Amy’s garlic
cheese fries, which she graciously let us sample.
We headed back to find a hotel and almost didn’t know what
to do with ourselves when we were checked in by 9:30PM! We’re about 2.5 hours out
of Glacier National Park (Montana) now, which is somewhere that I have wanted to go since
I was young – I’m very excited!
